I feel like the author read the wiki for DID and didn’t do much more research.

The entire book Elle is terrified that she will get DID because of genetics. Not only this, but the book insinuates that Gertie (Elle’s mother) also had it and that her mother did as well. None that they show in the book at least. I do think she has a serious dissociative disorder due to the trauma in her childhood, but she does not have any alters or personalities. (On a side note, if you’d like to learn more about DID and what it’s really like to live with, I highly suggest checking out the YouTube channel DissociaDID.) DID, previously known as multiple personality disorder, is something I have made an effort to learn more about recently. What I really had a problem with: they say over and over again how Elle’s mother Marie has dissociative identity disorder. I mean, he might have loved Gertie too much, if you believe that’s a thing. I also really really respected how much Jacob loved his family. I also love how much she (and Elle) cared for their jobs. She’s such a ride or die friend and I respect that a lot. I wanted to know the full story so badly that I read it over the course of one night. There’s a lot I liked about this novel, but there’s also one major thing that I have a huge problem with. It caught my interest immediately, I ended up reading it in one sitting.
